First and foremost I believe that therapy is helpful when the therapist creates an environment in which the client’s feelings and thoughts can be expressed freely. The therapist’s role is to be an active listener providing feedback, which will help the client understand the obstacles preventing them from reaching their potential and goals. I believe that both looking at factors in an individual’s past and the interaction between the client and the therapist can offer clues that foster the work.
Prior to being in full time private practice for almost 30 years I worked at an outpatient mental health clinic with adults, as well as an agency providing counseling services to senior citizens. I have specialized in the counseling and therapy of individuals dealing with infertility, adoption and third party reproduction. In addition to counseling pre and post adoptive families I have counseled birth parents and adopted persons. Many of my clients that I have worked with around family planning issues have continued in therapy focusing on personal, marital and parenting issues.
I have presented at workshops and conferences at the 92nd Street Y, at the Harvard Adoption conference and the American Adoption Conference. I have also written articles for magazines and was a featured therapist in the documentary "Adoption: We Can Do Better" in the segment "Infertility: A Complicated Loss".
