For over 35 years, I have been a clinician who has worked in a community mental health center, been an educator, and is currently in private practice. I have had training in many therapeutic modalities; therefore, I can tailor treatment to best serve your personal needs. Is this theoretical expertise important? Certainly! But, research shows that, regardless of technique, it is the relationship that is most important for a positive therapeutic outcome, and my greatest strength is in establishing an excellent working relationship. I know how
to listen in a compassionate, engaging nonjudgmental way. I am genuinely interested and curious about you. I want to know all about you and will help you to develop that same curiosity and interest without extreme self-criticalness. Working with me, you will feel safe, understood and validated. I have been told
countless times that “you get me.
We would be an excellent match if any of the following sounds familiar:
• Do you feel stuck, blocked or in a trance?
• Do you feel “not good enough,” sad, anxious, overwhelmed, confused, and/or irritable?
• Do you struggle with low self-esteem?
• Have you experienced trauma or prolonged stress issues?
• Do you suffer from PTSD and/or prolonged grief?
• Do you have problems in relationships?
• Do you have school or career difficulties?
• Do you feel unable to undo old behavior patterns and/or negative thoughts and feelings?
• Do you feel "talk therapy" is/was not enough?
These issues arise all the time in my work and I have successfully addressed them. My individual/couple practice is diverse and runs the gamut of ages, problems, ethnicities, sexual orientation, and professions (including creative arts, students/educators, legal and financial sectors). My mission is to facilitate your ability to thrive, not merely survive in relationships, work and educational pursuits.
In addition to my knowledge of supportive, psychoanalytically-oriented and psychodynamic psychotherapies, skill building, stress reduction, guided imagery and couples counseling, I have been energized by training in the newer cutting-edge therapies of EMDR, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, coherence therapy, and accelerated experiential psychodynamic psychotherapy. These approaches, rooted in the current findings of neuroscience and neuroplasticity, with full appreciation of the mind-body connection, and highly experiential will help you to revise and develop new neural pathways or “update the files” so that you are no longer trapped by unhelpful patterns of behavior, negative thinking and/or overwhelming feelings. These cutting-edge therapies have a laser-like precision to delve deeper to get to the core issue in a non-pathologizing manner and fully respecting that one’s behaviors and feelings have had an emotional necessity. Curiosity and compassion are part of the process and the transformations are a joy to behold for me and for those with whom I work.
I love my work and look forward to our having a productive relationship.
